Library Treehouse Proposal and Prototype
Fall 2023
An Inventive Design project where my team explored design processes and problem definition to propose a treehouse addition to the Somerville Public Library.
Socially Engaged Design Perspective
The focus of this was was on problem definition and design approach rather than solutions. My group applied principles from Socially Engaged Design to our project research and stakeholder research. This heavily impacted our considerations of economic accessibility, sustainability, and dis/ability accessibility. We conducted interviews and outlined plans for an evaluation strategy to center the Somervilly community in the design process.
Design Features
Using our outlined objectives, we determined design features that would meet the design requirements and justified each decision.
CAD and Physical Models
Taking the ideas determined above, we made a CAD model to demonstrate the physical design. Once we were happy with our model, we made a medium-fidelity prototype at 1/10th scale out of plywood, birch wood, acrylic, and paper.
